- Sunday 29 June16:00, Re:Act
Experience Sonita Alizadeh – a crucial voice in the fight for girls in Afghanistan – as she performs at Re:Act. Sonita, founder of Arezo and Dreams Book, a secret school for Afghan girls without access to education, has made a global difference through her music and activism. Her story is one of courage, struggle, and hope, and when she visits Re:Act, she will combine a musical performance with a subsequent interview that dives into her remarkable work.
Born in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime, Sonita came close to being forced into marriage both at the age of 10 and again at 16. Through her rap video Daughters for Sale, she gained international attention and became a powerful voice for girls worldwide. Her life was portrayed in the Sundance Award-winning documentary Sonita, and her passion for human rights and education has led to her being awarded the MTV Europe Generation Change Award, as well as a place on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list.
As an activist, musician, and author, Sonita is an unmatched source of inspiration, and her upcoming memoir, Sonita, will be published by HarperCollins in July.
Come and be part of an intimate meeting with Sonita, where music and human rights come together in a powerful story of hope and courage.
Re:Act is presented by Rapolitics, Roskilde Festival, and the Danish Institute for Human Rights, with support from the Tuborg Foundation and the OpEn Fund.
