8 reasons to volunteer

10.02.2026Commitment

Volunteering at Roskilde Festival is more than doing shifts. It’s access, community and experiences you don’t get as a regular guest.

Being a volunteer at Roskilde Festival means helping create the festival from the inside. At the same time, you still have plenty of space to enjoy the music, the atmosphere and everything that makes Roskilde special.

Here are eight great reasons why thousands of people choose to volunteer every year – and why you might want to join them.

1. You get access to the festival – and plenty of time to enjoy it

Your volunteer shifts are planned so you still have plenty of time for concerts, parties and breaks. Many people are positively surprised by just how much of the festival they actually get to experience.

2. You can spend time with friends – and make new ones

Volunteering together makes it easy to share the experience with friends, and just as easy to meet new people. Working side by side creates connections quickly – even if you arrive on your own.

3. You get the option of quiet camping and hot showers

As a volunteer, you can apply to camp in Volunteer Camping. Camping here gives you a calmer place to recharge. With hot showers and quieter surroundings, it’s easier to get proper rest when you need it.

4. You get food and drinks during your shifts

During your shifts, food and drinks are taken care of. That means less to think about and more energy to focus on the task and the people you’re working with.

5. You get access to Volunteers’ Village – just for volunteers

Volunteers’ Village is your dedicated space on the festival site. It’s where you can slow down, relax and join activities like sauna sessions, yoga, sound meditation, communal morning singing, music quizzes and bingo.

6. You help make a difference

Without volunteers, there is no Roskilde Festival. Being part of the team gives you a clear sense of how collaboration and voluntary work make the festival happen.

7. You learn something new and build your skills

Through your role, you gain hands-on experience with teamwork, responsibility and new challenges. These are skills you can take with you long after the festival ends.

8. You become part of something bigger

For many people, the volunteer community is the reason they come back year after year. It’s open, welcoming and something you quickly feel connected to.

Volunteering for the first time?

If you're considering volunteering at Roskilde Festival for the first time, you probably have questions. Below, we’ve gathered answers to some of the most common ones:

As a volunteer at Roskilde Festival, there are many different roles to choose from. With 27,000 volunteers, tasks range from service and bars to construction, IT and behind-the-scenes work. That makes it easy to find a role that matches your interests.

You could work with hosting and safety, helping create safe and welcoming surroundings for guests. You might prefer food stalls, bars and merchandise, where the pace is high and the atmosphere lively. If hands-on work appeals to you, there are build and service teams that make sure the site works before, during and after the festival.

There are also roles within office and IT, where structure and overview are key, as well as more specialised roles that require specific skills or interests.

All current opportunities are listed in the volunteer postings, where you can filter by category and find what suits you best.

As a volunteer, you’re expected to contribute either a minimum of 24 hours between Wednesday 1 July and Sunday 5 July 2026, or 32 hours spread across the full festival period.

Shifts are usually around 8 hours, but this can vary depending on the role. Some roles also take place before and/or after the festival, which will always be clearly stated in the volunteer listing.

On some teams, it’s also possible to volunteer for one single day by taking an 8-hour shift and getting access to the festival that day.

When you’re on shift, you’re expected to arrive on time and be sober. Breaking these rules can lead to removal from the festival and a fee.

You and your friends are very welcome to volunteer together. When applying for a volunteer role, simply write in your applications how many of you would like to be on the same team.

That way, the contact person knows you want to work together and can take it into account when teams are put together.

No! You don’t need any prior experience to volunteer at Roskilde Festival. There are roles for many different people, and training is part of being a volunteer. Everyone can take part.

What matters most is your motivation and willingness to contribute. Any age requirements or specific skills will always be listed in the individual volunteer postings, making it easy to find a role that suits you.

As a volunteer, you can apply for a spot in Volunteer Camping, where you can pitch a tent together with your friends if they’re also volunteers. Registration opens on 1 May and is done via your People profile.

Volunteer Camping is a calm area in green surroundings, designed for rest and recovery between shifts. You’ll have access to free hot showers, charging points for your phone and places to buy food and drinks. It’s set up for volunteers who want a good night’s sleep, at any time of day.

If you’d rather stay with friends who aren’t volunteering, you can find space in the general camping areas when you arrive.

Do good with others

Roskilde Festival is 100 % non-profit and your effort as a volunteer directly supports good causes.

You can volunteer with one of the 200 volunteer associations that help create Roskilde Festival – supporting each association’s charitable purpose in the process.

You can also volunteer directly for the Roskilde Festival Charity Society, where all proceeds go towards promoting young people’s wellbeing through art and culture.
