Change the World – Here’s How to Get Started

What are you passionate about? Nature or your favorite sport? Or maybe Roskilde Festival’s music lineup?

Meet Uffe Grøn Roepstorff, 22, who has made Roskilde Festival’s community his cause.

He began as a regular festivalgoer, simply engaging in the campsite life with his friends. From there, he took a step further and helped create the camping area Common Ground. Today, Uffe Roepstorff helps shape the entire Roskilde Festival as a board member of the Roskilde Festival Association.

Now, he’s calling others to action – and sharing his best advice on how to start driving the change you dream of, whether it’s about climate, culture, football, or festivals.

Speak up – and Be Rewarded

According to Uffe, your journey doesn’t begin when you officially start fighting for your cause – it starts long before. Ask yourself: Why does this matter to me?

“Think about the kind of community you want to be part of. Often, it’s the people – not the task – that make it meaningful.”

This also helps you identify who might support your first steps. And most importantly, you need to keep a cool head and believe that your voice matters.

“Reach out! What really counts is showing up, showing that you care, and that you’re ready to contribute.”

It’s about jumping in. You don’t need to be an expert – courage and curiosity matter more than experience, Uffe explains. That’s part of what makes volunteering such a powerful way to engage.

“You get the chance to take responsibility and try things you wouldn’t get to do in a regular job – and the more effort you put in, the more influence you gain.”

Uffe’s own journey proves the point. Even though it’s nerve-wracking to speak up and push for change, it’s always worth it.

“I’ve been rewarded every time I took that leap – even when I doubted if I was qualified.”

More Young Voices Should Shape Roskilde Festival

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Roskilde Festival. Simply put: no volunteers, no festival.

That’s why Uffe is now fighting to bring more young people into the process of shaping the festival’s future. Because that’s the only way it can keep evolving.

“The people who attend Roskilde Festival are young – so why shouldn’t young people be the ones shaping it too? I believe there’s huge value in fresh, unfiltered perspectives that dare to challenge how things are done.”

Uffe’s story – from participant to board member – is rooted in Roskilde Festival, but the principles apply no matter what you’re passionate about.

Reach out, make your voice heard, and create the change you want to see.
