Roskilde Festival annually invites politicians to the festival site. Here are the facts and background for the invitations
Why do you invite politicians to the festival?
The basis for the invitations is that Roskilde Festival, as a leading cultural institution, is important for politicians to know about.
At the same time, the festival encompasses projects and partnerships within cultural, social, green, and philanthropic focus areas, which we want to showcase. It is important for our charitable work that politicians know what Roskilde Festival stands for and how we work from a broader perspective than what is usually presented in the news media.
With 130,000 participants, Roskilde Festival can be seen as Denmark’s fourth-largest city measured in ‘population’. Thus, the festival also serves as a test platform and laboratory for new solutions, products, and initiatives.
Therefore, we occasionally also invite politicians who may have a specific interest in various projects and solutions that have broader societal relevance.
Which politicians do you invite?
In the Folketing (the Danish Parliament), the invitations are limited to the sitting government and politicians from relevant committees.
In the municipal area, Roskilde Municipality’s city council and politically appointed committees are invited, as it makes sense that local politicians know about the municipality’s largest cultural event. In addition, we have also invited politicians from Copenhagen Municipality.
How is a politician’s visit organized?
If a politician accepts an invitation, a tour is organized on the festival site, which is related to the politician’s or group’s (city council, committee, etc.) department and/or areas of interest.
How many do you invite, and how many visit the festival?
In recent years, the festival has invited approximately 75-100 participants annually, of which about 40-45 have accepted the invitation.
Can politicians bring companions?
Ministers are invited with a companion and can also inquire about access for e.g. advisors and secretaries, who can gain access without payment. Any companions to other politicians pay for access to the festival site themselves.
Which politicians have specifically participated in previous years and/or participate in this year’s festival?
We recommend journalists to ask relevant politicians directly, as the Roskilde Festival does not disclose personal data about the participants.
