After a five-year hiatus from releasing albums, Iceage are back with their new and masterful album For Love and Grace & the Hereafter, proving that they remain Denmark’s leading post-punk band, but also that they constantly manage to evolve their sound with an eclectic curiosity. With these new songs under their belt, the stage is set for a powerful concert when Iceage appear at Roskilde Festival.
Like a white-hot bolt of uncompromising punk energy, Iceage burst onto the Danish music scene with their debut album New Brigade in 2011 and a series of chaotic live shows. The album was immediately hailed as a landmark in Danish music, and Iceage became the standard-bearers for a new wave of Danish post-punk. Iceage also caused a stir internationally, particularly with the follow-up You’re Nothing (2013), which showed that Iceage had only just begun.
Fifteen years after the release of their debut album, Iceage seem more vibrant than ever. In impressive fashion, they have managed to expand and refine their sound with every new album, and they have grown as both musicians and songwriters without compromising that tingling post-punk edge. This comes through clearly on For Love and Grace & the Hereafter, which has already been hailed as an artistic triumph. The Guardian gave the album top marks and praised the band’s ability to keep moving forward whilst maintaining a dizzyingly high musical standard: “A hugely impressive streak. It leaves you thinking that whilst the band’s constant development and diversity is striking, their consistency is even more striking still”.
For Love and Grace & the Hereafter is also a testament to a strong musical collective that manages to bring out the best in one another and conjure up a shared energy. An energy that still bears the dark and chaotic hallmark of punk, yet also opens up to love, tenderness and a radiant hope that lifts the audience. The band last appeared at Roskilde Festival in 2022, where they received excellent reviews, and we look forward to bringing the band back with their latest masterpiece.
