When rapper Kundo took to the stage at the Roskilde Festival in 2024, he was still a promising up-and-coming artist. Even then, however, it was clear that something big was on the cards. “His potential as a Danish hip-hop artist is enormous,” concluded Danish magazine GAFFA, and Kundo has truly lived up to that potential and has since established himself as an indispensable and exceptionally ambitious voice in Danish hip-hop. A voice that is now returning to the Roskilde Festival.
Already on the EP Bar’ En Drøm and, not least, with the breakthrough hit single “7100”, it was clear that Kundo brought a sense of originality to the genre – both in his lyrics and in his jazz-inspired productions.
On the almost breathtakingly good debut album 24, which was released in 2025, Kundo set the artistic bar even higher. The album made it onto Danish magazine Soundvenue’s list of the year’s best Danish albums, and the same publication’s reviewer described Kundo as an uncompromising artist who “is creating some of the most ambitious Danish hip-hop around at the moment”. The album showcased an artist who skilfully and personally moves from jazzy details and quirky synth pads to heavy trap beats and big melodies that draw on the legacy of soul.
Since then, Kundo has impressed through collaborations with artists such as Kesi and Anton Westerlin, and on his new single “Shen Mao” he opens yet another powerful chapter. The track quickly shot to the top of the Danish charts and points towards an even freer and more precise style – one where Kundo’s own musical instincts are allowed to set the direction. One thing is certain: Kundo is far from finished showing us new directions for Danish hip-hop, and expectations are sky-high as he returns to the Roskilde Festival this summer.
