FRIDAY 3 JULY

A cosmic ritual of psychedelic sci-fi and traditional rhythms from the Andes Mountains

  • Friday 3 July

On rare occasions, one encounters music that seems to create its own universe, while simultaneously shaking up listeners who otherwise believe they have heard it all. Such an event was the self-titled debut album by the duo Los Thuthanaka, released in 2025, which blew the minds of even seasoned music critics.

In their review, The Quietus attempted to describe the encounter as follows: “A trance record in the true sense, eternal time in the rhythms of cumbia, the steps of the Andean dance huayño. We’re left with a sense of slack-jawed euphoria.” Pitchfork was no less enthusiastic, naming the  release the best album of the year.

Behind the duo are siblings Chuquimamani-Condori (who previously released music under the name Elysia Crampton) and Joshua Chuquimia Crampton. Together, they delve into their roots in the Aymara culture – an indigenous people of the Andes Mountains – and send ancient, trance-inducing rhythms into a transformative space of wild psychedelic visions, sci-fi inspiration and cosmic guitar sounds.

It is music that connects the past, present and future, but at the same time seems to exist outside of time. You can expect a mind-expanding journey into a deeply personal musical universe when Los Thuthanaka brings their unique music to Roskilde Festival this summer.
