“It’s a record destined for moving feet. Body swaying beats for nighttime adventures,” wrote Songlines magazine about Colombian duo Indus’ album Negra from 2024. And it is indeed an album that invites the listener on a journey into the night with a mix of traditional folk music and pulsating electronic rhythms.
The duo consists of seasoned producer Oscar Alford, who has worked with names such as Ghetto Kumbé and Sidestepper, and the formidable percussionist Andres Mercado. They got together in 2020 to release their powerful debut album Indus, which was followed by two EPs with remixes. In 2024, the follow-up album Negra was finally released, truly showcasing the duo's eclectic and trance-inducing mix of folk music roots and electronic futurism.
Thematically, the album revolves around the borderline states of the night, and with elements of both techno and ancient ritual rhythms, the duo creates a truly cosmic night trip, while, with a number of selected guests, they unfold a wide-ranging tribute to Colombia's rich musical culture, which has given the country the nickname "land of a thousand rhythms".
You can also expect a diverse rhythmic extravaganza when the duo performs live with their mix of traditional Afro-Colombian percussion, electronic beats and trippy synths. It's a mix that's impossible to stand still to, and you are hereby invited to take part in Indus' sweat-dripping rhythmic ritual.
