THURSDAY 2 JULY

Cinematic soul with a global outlook from French-Haitian star

  • Thursday 2 July

Naïka combines cultural diversity, aesthetic sensibility and emotional intensity in songs that go straight to the heart and body. With her personal blend of R&B, soul and pop, she has built up a solid fan base over the last ten years through a series of strong EPs, viral singles and, not least, her dazzling concerts. She has now released her debut album, Eclesia, whose songs we look forward to experiencing live at Roskilde Festival this summer.

With a French-Haitian background and residing in the United States, Naïka was shaped by a childhood that took her from the Caribbean and Kenya to France and South Africa. She draws on both personal experiences and a global outlook in songs that move fluidly between Caribbean, African, French and American inspirations, just as she lyrically mixes English, French and Haitian Creole. These are truly songs that open up the world and make it bigger, while at the same time insisting on an intimate and sensual presence.

For Naïka, music is a channel for conveying human stories beyond stereotypes and a creative space where she hopes people with a similar multicultural background can feel at home. With her amazing voice, which masterfully embraces her diverse catalogue of musical inspirations, she breathes life into these stories, compelling listeners to surrender to them.

Live, the songs are lifted by her powerful vocals, beautiful visuals and a live band whose organic sound and groove unfold the soulful songs in grand format. When she visits Roskilde Festival this summer, she will do so with her brand new debut album in her bag, which singles such as “Bloom” and “Blessings” have pointed very promisingly towards.
