Their music has been labelled "vampire rock" and "emo grunge", and although they are still a fairly new band, having released their first single in 2025, there is already a solid hype surrounding Portal Pets in alternative music circles.
This is hardly surprising, as the band's three members, Xenia Xamanek, Emil Palme and Oliver Laumann, are each prominent names on Copenhagen's alternative music scene. Names that have made their mark individually, but who have also made their mark in collaborations with artists such as ML Buch, Ydegirl and Clarissa Connelly.
Portal Pets embodies the experimental and curious musical spirit that we have come to expect from the musicians' other projects. This is channelled into a captivating expression that blends elements of grunge, folk and metal with room for both lyrical sensitivity and wild sonic excesses. A gothic atmosphere ties the diverse expressions together and opens up a musical universe with room for beauty, sorrow and magic.
Portal Pets are now ready with their debut album, which impressively unfolds the band's vision. The three seasoned musicians also manage to create their own unique sound universe live, balancing between fragility and noise. And it will be fantastic to experience the songs from the album when they visit Roskilde Festival this summer.
