For many years, the Norwegian music scene has been a reliable source of top-quality Nordic folk music. Still, you'd have to look hard to find a band with as much charm and youthful curiosity as Pumpegris.
It is not without reason that the band has become a live favourite in Norway in just a few years, where they have taken folk music far beyond the usual musical circles. Among other things, they have performed at the by:Larm festival in Oslo, where they also received the prestigious "Shooting Star of the Year" award in 2025.
That same year, Pumpegris released their sensational debut album Fritids, produced by Norwegian folk icon Tuva Syvertsen (Valkyrien Allstars, Tuvas Blodklubb). The album showcases a band that effortlessly blends the deep roots of Nordic folk music with elements of shoegaze, hip-hop and West African grooves – without ever sounding contrived.
The fiery melodies and rich arrangements leave no doubt about the band's deep respect for tradition, but at the same time they lift the musical heritage into a vibrant present with both humour and youthful vulnerability. Pumpegris is a phenomenon that really needs to be experienced live, and luckily you'll get the chance when they give Roskilde Festival a lesson in contemporary Nordic folk music.
